Local News: Carol Allen speaks about son Keegan Allen Black Habits Articles As many of you already know, my 18 year-old son Keegan was senselessly shot in the head on Thanksgiving Sunday, Oct 7, 2007 while he was watching a dance competition at a Banquet Hall in Toronto. He was hooked up to life support, but he died in hospital on Tuesday, October 9th from his severe injuries.

I cannot begin to tell how it feels to lose your only child--a child who was lovable and loved by so many. The apple of my eye and such a beautiful young man who loved to dance, play video games and stay on the computer for hours at a time. A young man who was in Grade 12 in high school and thinking about getting into the computer software and technology industry while perfecting his art of dance. He was a wonderful spirit and such a blessing, and it is so difficult as I sit right now in his favorite chair, his favorite spot, looking at so many pictures of him that someone had the heart to go into an environment with hundreds of kids of all ages and their parents and fire a gun. Just one bullet through the head took him down. So quickly, Keegan didn't even know what hit him.

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the Tropicana Community Services Scarborough Youth Resource Centre in the Scarborough Town Centre for extending their hours and providing a place for Keegan's friends to come and mourn and talk about their relationships and good times with him. Keegan attended Tropicana's day camps, after school programs, tutoring classes and a couple of years ago completed the 40 hour community services requirement that is necessary for Ontario students to graduate. He did it by helping out at the Youth Resource Centre after school.

I've had the opportunity to meet some of Keegan's friends at the hospital and at the Youth Resource Centre over the last few days and the support and wonderful words from them as well as all of your well wishes, is what has given my family and I the strength during this tremendously difficult time.

Many have you have contacted me by phone/email etc., and although I may not have been able to get in touch with all of you, I am listening to all of your messages of condolence and I appreciate every one of them.

I know a lot of you are asking what you can do to help. For now, just sit tight. Trust me. The gun violence has got to stop and I will be calling on you for support in various ways. I am in the process of setting up a memorial fund for Keegan and will get that information out as soon as it's finalized.

As I write this we are still in the process of finalizing Keegan's visitation and funeral service, however, as soon as I have the information, I will send out another email.
