The festival is “bigger and better” than its successful debut. This event caters to families, friends and loved ones and guarantees something for everyone. Indulge in jerk food, games, rides and music under a beautiful summer sky, surrounded by the splendor of nature.

The Toronto International Jerk & Jazz Festival features a diverse variety of Jerk foods from the Caribbean and its influences from around the world. Explore the wide selection of Jerk Chicken, Beef, Fish, Pork, Vegetables and Tofu. Enjoy a day of Caribbean Jerk cooking and the sweet sound of Jazz on the grounds of one of Toronto’s most popular park.

The 2nd annual Toronto International Jerk and Jazz Festival takes place on Saturday August 19th 2006, between 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at Queen’s Park. Admission is free. This year we honor a Great Cultural Ambassador, our BELOVED Jamaican cultural icon Louise Simone Bennett-Coverly, affectionately called 'Miss Lou' who passed away this week in Toronto, Ontario

Be your own judge at the 2nd Annual Toronto International Jerk Food Competition 2006 and support our celebrity judges – Farley Flex (Canadian Idol Judge), Rudy Blair (AM680 News Radio), ‘Spex’ (Flow 93.5 FM Radio Personality), Jeremy Parsons (Mixologist), Ben Johnson (former World Champion sprinter), Victor Machado (AM640 Talk Radio), Chef Anneif Coote (Executive Chef of the Strand Restaurant), Michael Yarde (Rogers Television) – will also join our MC team this year, as the competition pits some of Toronto's best chefs and restaurateurs in a head to head contest of creativity, culinary skill and adaptability. A cash prize of $ 3 000 will be shared amongst the winners.

The public can also enter our eating contests for a chance to win $ 100. This year is the debut of the tropical ice cream contest and jerk sauce tasting. Eating contests entrance fee is $10. We welcome back our winning MC’s Michelle Hughes, Miguel Hyman, and Sharlana Waite who will be helping our contestants to “Eat That Jerk, The Grizzle, The Grizzle, The Grizzle”. Celebrity chef Jerk cookbooks are on site to bring the exciting taste of the festival to your kitchen all year round.

The festival will highlight and feature the sweet sounds of Jazz that has become synonymous with Toronto over the past fifty years. The 2nd annual Toronto International Jerk & Jazz Festival will present an eclectic mix of music and will embrace many of the different genres of Jazz for your listening pleasure. Let Cuban Jazz great Pablo Terry and the soulful smooth jazz sounds of the Contemporary Jazz Group show you the way to love and fun in the city. The festival is extremely proud to present young talents such as Haley Small, Ashley Martinez, Shianne Phillips, Quincy Bullen and Omar Gittens. The evening also features artists – Victor Crowl, Daniel Huezo, Perfect Cadence, Dwight Anderson, Barry Gardner, Brothers From Different Mothers and many more. The audience can take the sweet sounds home with the official Jerk and Jazz Compilation CD of upcoming artists with original music.

The Children and Youth Entertainment Centres will consist of a variety of fun and entertaining games and activities geared to children and youth of all ages. Family Fun & Games are the recipe of the day and all are invited to participate in the many fund raising activities, such as the Three Legged Coconut & Spoon Race and the Coconut Roll. The festival will help to raise funds and awareness for two community based non-profit organizations - Camp Jumoke and Visions of Science Network for Learning.
